Projeté au Festival de Toronto hier, Ma vie avec John F. Donovan, la première production américaine de Xavier Dolan, a visiblement divisé. Avec son parterre de stars (Kit Harington, Kathy Bates, Susan Sarandon, Natalie Portman…) et une jeune pousse (Jacob Tremblay), le film raconte l’histoire d’un jeune homme qui, dix ans après la mort d’une vedette de la télé, se replonge dans l’abondante correspondance qu’ils avaient tous deux échangée. Les premiers avis, entre amour extatique et déception, sont tombés sur la Twittosphère. On en prend la température :

THE DEATH AND LIFE OF JOHN F. DONOVAN is not perfect and feels a tad dated, only because society has moved so forward since the 90s. But it combines the best of what makes Dolan’s films so great, and is led by a fantastic performance from Jacob Tremblay. The finale is TREMENDOUS!
